The Chapter is now considering various institutions, graduate and/or post-students as its grant or scholorship recepients. The successful applicant will be conducting research or field work related to, or actively advancing exploration and/or the physical sciences. We are soliciting nominations by Chapter members, guests and applicants.

If you are aware of worthy explorer(s) or budding explorer(s) in need of funding for a worthwhile project, click the image to the right, print out an application and provide it to the individual or group.

For further information, please contact Capt. Stephen D. Nagiewicz FN'95, FRGS'01 at: nagiewicz@comcast.net.

On Saturday, November 22, 2008 the chapter is hosting a canoe trip for members, family and friends titled Canoeing the Mullica River in the Jersey Pine Barrens.

We will start at 9:00am at NJ rt. 206 at the ATSION Ranger Station canoe put in.  Just south of the ranger station is a dirt road (east side of 206) which goes to the parking and river put in area.  If we do the car shuttle to the take out point at rt. 542 – Pleasant Mills at 9am then we should be on the river at 9:45.

Trip length is 5+ hours on the flat twisty windy narrow Mullica River.  It is unknown how many take outs due to blow downs there might be, so be prepared to drag your boat around downed trees.   Bring lunch, dry clothes and whatever else the weather calls for.

If you need to rent a boat, there are 18 canoe rental business listed in ‘Canoeing the Jersey Pine Barrens’, and the first three that came up in a Google Web search are:

The legal fine print

You are responsible for your own foolishness and the Explores Club or Philadelphia Chapter take's on or assumes no responsibility for anything. There are hazards in water travel and hazards of wild areas too long to list here.

If you don’t know what you are doing then stay home.

Great Exploring!

Regulars to this website have learned that the Webmeister tries to include some humor on this page. A recent cartoon seemed appropriate. If the copywrite holders object it will be removed summarily.
